Choice.

Surreal. The word just screams dream. To dream… Such a creative, unique, and unexplainable event. When I think of the what it means to dream my mind becomes flooded with irrational thoughts, some of which I would prefer far more than my current reality.
The reason as to why I chose these particular images was not given to me by another artists work, but rather from my own personal experiences in life. I thought about what effects my life the most: choices. I started there with a choice. What better way to represent having to choose than laying down two doors in front of the viewer? The left door, which seems to be emanating with a dark and evil power, is labeled as being the “good” door to choose. On the opposing side of the page, we have the right door. This door is far less menacing than the other, though oddly enough, it is labeled as “bad” even though you can clearly see the right way out. In the center of the image near the top, we have an “all-seeing, all knowing eye.” This eye represents peer pressure, or rather the judgmental eyes of the world. In the world you are constantly being watched and monitored, and judged based upon your decisions. The world has designated what is good and what is bad. Even if you can see the obvious choice as to what is better, the pressure of others may influence you to do something you’ve never intended to pick yourself.

The reason why I used mostly dark blues, whites, and dark yellows is mostly because to me those colors represent the abyss of outer space. Even though it exists, I still find it hard to believe, which in turn reminds me of dreaming. Clouds and the infinity of space surround you, making it seem as if you are stuck in an alternate dimension.
The research I did was as simple as looking at various surreal artists and paging through piles of stock photography on DeviantArt. From there, I chose images which matched closely to the images I already had stored in my head for this piece. I met my goals well, by downloading new brushes and using new techniques such as the motion blur, I created it just as I envisioned.
Now then, it’s time for you to make the ultimate choice: will you pick the “good” door, or the “bad” one? Remember, your choice does not only effect you, but everyone else as well. Friends may become enemies, or loved ones may quickly reject you. Will you be willing to let them have their way or will you follow your own heart?
